Counselling/Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy and counselling are talking therapies. They are used to treat emotional problems and mental health issues. As well as talking, I may offer a range of methods including, creative tools, getting outside to walk in nature, using mindfulness techniques.
Psychotherapy including EMDR – Helps you heal your past
EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing – is still a relatively new therapy which, does require some explanation. Shapiro first conceived this approach in the late 1980s.
Built on a clear understanding of how the brain and the body experience and process trauma and distress, EMDR is now undoubtedly one of the most successful, effective, ways we know of tackling the aftermath of trauma.
When I describe Trauma, people often think of the “Big T” traumas such as road accidents, natural disasters, violence, or life-threatening experiences. EMDR also successfully treats the “little t” traumas: non-life-threatening injuries, emotional abuse, death of a pet, bullying or harassment, and loss of significant relationships.
For many of us, we accumulate these ‘little t’ traumas in childhood and this maybe some of the underlying reasons you are currently seeking therapy.
I have experienced EMDR as a therapist and also as a client with inspiring and sometimes astonishing results, both personally and professionally.
It’s not easy to say how many sessions are required, sometimes a one off trauma such as a car accident or an assault, good work can often be done in just three or four sessions and people often feel better very quickly.
If the trauma sits deeper, perhaps involving childhood experiences of neglect, domestic violence, or abuse the work may take longer, as we build up the therapeutic relationship and I support you to face these painful experiences.

Professional Supervision
As a therapist it is mandatory during training and once qualified to attend regular supervision.
However, many other professionals find the reflective process of supervision useful for both their personal and professional development.
Whether you are at the beginning of your career or an experienced professional, as a supervisor I offer a safe place to bring your concerns, case discussions, ethical questions, etc. Whilst also using our joint process to address your blind spots, reflect on your practice and celebrate your achievements.
In group supervision, there is an opportunity to learn, challenge, and support each other in a safe professional environment.
Although not yet mandatory for Coaches the International Coach Federation has adopted the position of ‘strongly encouraging’ supervision for all coaches: Association of Coaches website.
Having provided supervision in both the NHS and private practice I wanted a formal qualification to enhance my own learning and achieved a MSc in Professional Supervision at Middlesex University in 2015.
I am passionate about providing a relational learning opportunity through supervision and feel I continue to grow and learn through every supervision session I attend.
I offer both individual and group supervision in person in NG24 or on line.
I currently supervise, coaches, counsellors, priests and psychotherapists.
Counsellors and Psychotherapists Meeting Place
As a therapist or counsellor, it can be difficult to feel connected with others in your field. The health industry is vast, and many private professionals now work from home, which can lead to feelings of isolation.
Join Our Group and Help Build a Thriving Community of Professionals

We usually have a varied agenda, but our discussions have previously included, client acquisition, advertising, boundaries, supervision, clinical wills, therapeutic retreats, CPD etc.
Eventually I would like this space to include peer supervision and to exchange ideas and articles.

Continuing Professional Development Groups
Are you a Counsellor or Psychotherapist looking for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours?
I currently run a monthly 90-minute CPD Group for up to 6 people.
The agenda for each meeting is set by the group, and my aim is to create a professional development group that specifically addresses the needs of the practitioners present. I imagine it would involve:
Peer support, clinical case discussion, ethical debate, boundary issues, how to work with any therapeutic issue, panic, anxiety, trauma etc. Professional development as required by the group members.
£35.00 per person, each group. The group fee is a membership fee, not an attendance fee.
If you are a newly qualified counsellor or new to private practice, contact me to join a CPD group especially for people like you.
Where the agenda is set by you, which may include client acquisition, logo design, business names, contracts, cancellation policies and boundaries etc.

Outdoor Therapy and Mindfulness
There are so many benefits on our physical and mental health of being outside in nature that I have developed a way of working to bring together my love of nature with my psychotherapy practice.
You can choose to simply walk and talk and/or using more focused mindful exercises.
We may decide to sit in a particular spot for the entire time or vary our route a little from session to session.
Each session is likely to be different, with your choices, varied routes and of course the weather.
As with seeing you in my office, I will hold the necessary boundaries for our outdoor work to be safe and effective. We will have a focus for each session, and at the start of our work I will discuss confidentiality and how to mange the environment, when we meet others, or are joined by a dog for example.
If you are interested in outdoor therapy I would arrange a conversation with you on the phone first.
If it seems like this way of working would be suitable for you, we will then agree a time for an initial assessment session outdoors in NG24. This will be an opportunity for us to meet together, to talk about what you want from therapy, and for you to feel what it is like to work with me outdoors.
If we are both happy at this point to work together, we can then agree on further times to meet.

Mindset Coaching for Runners
I can help you to:
- Enjoy running whether a complete beginner or a seasoned athlete.
- Set achievable goals and achieve your dreams.
- Learn tools and techniques to develop mental focus.
- Become focused mentally so not to be disappointed by your result.
I personally came to running late in life, and built up my distances slowly. However, when I got a charity place in The London Marathon, I learnt how important sports psychology and mindset coaching really was. Training in the worst winter of 2017 and then running the hottest London Marathon ever, led me to reach deep inside myself to places of resilience, determination and focus I honestly didn’t know I had.
Do you want to achieve your running dreams? Then contact me today to arrange an appointment to discover how Mindset Coaching can help you.
